FAQs

Q: Why should I give up my time to come along to The Really Useful Business Show on October 13th?

A:There are three reasons why local entrepreneurs and business leaders attend the show. Many businesses like to network, others like to listen to our celebrity speakers like Digby Jones and James Caan (2008) and others love our practical workshops. This year we have more 20 topics running at least three times across the day. We also have lots of exhibitors, showing everything from new banking schemes to the latest web and digital technology. Last year, James Caan was so impressed he invested in one of our members companies and is now their Chair.

Q: I can see on your website that there will be a special workshop called 'The Tender Zone'. It sounds a bit like Holby City, what's that all about?

A: This workshop is designed to help local businesses to think about how to approach the local government and private sector procurement market. The workshops main purpose is indentify the key processes, and understand and demystify the complexities. The Zone is a really effective way of de-mystifying that process by speaking to local businesses and local authorities who tender or who have successfully bid before.

Q: OK, I've listened to Digby Jones tells us about “Yes Prime Minster” and attended that workshop too, what else can I do?

A: Personally I'd recommend attending one of the Business Link Clinics.

Q: I had my blood pressure checked last week! I’m not sure I need to be probed about any more. What happens at these Clinics

A: These Clinics are designed to get to the point and heart of the business issues. They are 60 minute sessions, and you'll come away with a practical action plan which you will be able to apply straight away and we will follow up to find out how it’s going for you.

Q: What sort of people do you get at an event like this?

A: A large cross section of businesses and freelancers - and not just from Sussex. People from universities, colleges, government departments and local MP’s.

Q: I see that you are running a workshop on search engine marketing appearing to be talking about 'black hats'. If I wanted to learn how to juggle I would have gone to Circus School, what’s this all about?

A: Not surprisingly over the years certain techniques have been developed by SEO specialists that aim to bend the SEO rules as much as possible to gain a high rank position on Google search result pages. These techniques are usually referred to as black hat SEO as many of the systems in use are unethical and frowned upon by the SEO industry as a whole. More details about black hat SEO techniques can be found at this workshop. It is advisable to avoid these techniques completely so come along and find out what you can do
